Your thumbnail isn't viewed at full size. It's viewed at about 168 pixels wide, on a phone, next to eleven others.
Most designers hand you a 1280x720 image that looks great on their monitor. Shrink it to phone size and the text turns to mush. You paid for something you can't read where it actually matters.
I check. Every thumbnail comes with:
- Text size measured at phone width, not guessed
- Contrast measured against the real pixels behind the words
- Text kept clear of the duration stamp YouTube puts in the corner
- Correct spec: 1280x720, under 2MB, uploads first time
You also get the actual 168px preview, so you can see what a viewer sees instead of taking my word for it.

Why does phone size matter so much?
Most YouTube watch time starts on mobile, where your thumbnail renders around 168 pixels wide in the feed. Text that looks bold at full size can be genuinely unreadable there. It's the most common flaw I see and almost nobody checks for it.
Will this get me more views?
I can't promise that, and anyone who does is guessing. What I can do is remove one specific, measurable failure — a thumbnail nobody can read at the size they actually see it. The title and topic are still your job.
What if I don't have a good photo?
Send whatever you have — a screenshot, a still from the video, a phone selfie against a plain wall. If you'd rather not be on camera at all, say so and I'll design around text and colour instead.
Can you match my existing style?
