Mandatory since June 19, 2026: the EU withdrawal button (Widerrufsbutton, EU Directive 2023/2673 / § 356a BGB).
If your Shopify store sells to consumers in the EU and the button is missing, you risk legal warnings (Abmahnungen), fines of up to 50,000, and a withdrawal period extended to up to 12 months.

Is this really mandatory for my store?
Yes — since June 19, 2026 for virtually every store concluding online contracts with EU consumers (B2C) where a right of withdrawal applies. Marketplace sellers are affected too. Send me your store URL and I'll tell you for free whether and how it applies to you.
Isn't my withdrawal form via email enough?
No. Email and forms remain valid channels, but they don't replace the new mandatory function. The button must be additionally available, clearly visible, and accessible directly in the store without login.
Do I need an app with monthly fees?
No. I build the function directly into your theme with an app — one-time payment, no app subscriptions.
Do you also write the legal texts (withdrawal policy, privacy policy)?
I'm a developer, not a lawyer — I'm not allowed to give legal advice. You get the texts from your legal service (e.g. Händlerbund, IT-Recht Kanzlei, eRecht24), and I integrate them cleanly in the right places (Standard/Premium package).
What happens when a customer clicks the button?
The customer goes through the two-step process, actively confirms the withdrawal, automatically receives a confirmation email — and you get an instant notification with all details (Standard/Premium). Reviewing and processing the return itself stays with you, as usual.
Does this work with every theme?
Yes — with all Shopify themes (OS 2.0 and older). For heavily customized themes I do a quick check upfront, so: send your store URL before ordering.
