What is a "static" website?
A static website is a site that does not have any back-end functionality (i.e. no database, or server-side scripting). So a static site would not be capable of taking customer orders or allowing visitors to create accounts. However, the content displayed can appear dynamic using front-end scripting.
What is a "page equivalent"?
A particular style of website uses one very long page with all the site's content. This would not be the same price as one regular page, so the major content blocks are considered page equivalents for pricing purposes. Feel free to message me about your content block size to know for sure.
How does Google Firebase hosting work on the Standard and Premium packages?
For those packages, I will help you set up a Google account that you will control. I will use that account to set up Firebase hosting, and I will upload your site there. Firebase is free for static sites that do not receive heavy, enterprise-level traffic: see https://firebase.google.com/pricing
Does hosting also come with a domain name?
Google Firebase provides a unique domain name for your site for free, but if you want a specific domain name, you will need to purchase one from a registrar. For Standard and Premium packages, if you have a domain name, I will configure its DNS settings to point to your site using your credentials.
Can you help me with hosting other than Google Firebase?
Most likely yes. If you have already found hosting elsewhere, and you give me your credentials, I will help with that. Please do contact me regarding the details, as depending on the scenario, that may change the price.
What does "Speed optimization" mean?
That means that I will write and bundle your source code files in such a way that web browsers will load your site more quickly and seamlessly. This is largely done by prioritizing certain files to be loaded before others: in the order in which they will be needed.
What does the "Optimize Images" option do?
The images you get from your camera or other sources are often large and require a long download time. This option means I will compress your images in multiple methods to yield the fastest download rate while maintaining quality for each visitor to your page, regardless of their browser.
What does the "Meta Info And Icons" option do?
If you have an icon that you would like as your favicon, then this option will generate the favicon in all the standard formats. Additionally, meta tags will be used to ensure your site will appear correctly in search results and when sent via messaging apps.
