Before starting my freelance practice, I worked as a Junior Grant Writer at a boutique consulting firm serving education and community development nonprofits. In this role, I assisted senior grant writers in researching federal, state, and foundation grants. I managed a grant calendar tracking over 50 deadlines simultaneously. I helped secure $800,000 in funding from sources including the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services, and several private family foundations. I proofread and formatted over 30 grant submissions, ensuring every application met strict formatting requirements and deadlines. I also developed a grant research database of 200+ active opportunities that the entire firm used. Within 18 months, I was promoted to lead writer and given my own portfolio of clients. I left this role to start my independent consulting practice.
