Somewhere between the first draft and the finished book, something gets lost. Every writer knows that strange, vulnerable stretch: the manuscript that holds everything you meant to say, but hasn't quite said it yet. That's the space I work in.
I read slowly. I listen for the rhythm of a novel, the honesty underneath a memoir, the quiet confidence a good guide needs to earn a reader's trust. Then I help bring that out, without losing what made it yours in the first place.
