Over mij
Hi, I’m Nora Blakes!
A Virginia-born graphics designer with almost a decade of experience and parent who turns manuscripts into shelf-ready covers while the kids are at soccer.
After earning my BFA in Visual Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University, I traded late-night studio sessions for late-night lullabies, raising two spirited kids while building a studio career that keeps bedtime stories and book covers equally alive.
I've loved art since pencil-hoarding childhood; now I make readers stop mid-scroll. Let’s make your story un-ignorable.

Freelance Children’s Book Illustrator
Self Employed • ZZP
Jul 2025 - Present • 1 yr 3 mos
I create hand-drawn and watercolor illustrations for children’s picture books, bedtime stories, educational books, and independent publishing projects. I also develop expressive characters, page compositions, backgrounds, and full-book visual direction while maintaining character consistency throughout each story. I prepare high-resolution artwork with trim size, bleed, safe margins, and print requirements in mind.

Nora was so understanding when I suggested a few adjustments to the illustrations. The first part of the book is amazing and I look forward to seeing the finished project.

After Nora created my first sample page, which I adored, I decided to do something different with the characters. She was so intuitive and knew exactly what was floating around in my mind. I contracted to do a second page and in just a few days she completed another version that is simply perfect. Nora...

It's hard for me to describe the visual I have in my head of my book, and I'm not the best at conveying it in words. Nora is intuitive and has the knowledge and experience to figure out what it is that I am looking for. She's amazing and so easy to work with. Her illustrations bring to life the story I am trying to tell.

I appreciate the understanding of the project and my intentions with trying to get the human touch to the project. This pencil sketch is beautiful and very in line with what I am looking for. I will plan to follow up as I can for next steps when the budget allows.
