Between 2021 and 2025, Upwork was where I really grew into my writing. It was my first serious experience taking on clients professionally and looking back, it taught me more than I expected. I worked with about 45 clients over that period across a wide range of projects. Ghostwriting, research, editing, newsletters, you name it. Every new project came with a different voice to capture, a different audience to write for, and a different set of expectations to meet. Early on I was still finding my footing but I was always willing to put in the work to get it right. Four of those clients kept coming back, and that meant a lot to me. Repeat clients do not return because the work was just okay. They return because something about the collaboration worked, because they trusted me with their ideas and I delivered. That kind of validation early in my career pushed me to take my craft more seriously. By the time I wrapped up on the platform in 2025, I was a different writer from the one who started in 2021. More confident, more versatile, and much better at understanding what a client actually needs, sometimes before they can fully articulate it themselves.
