Generally I follow these steps to complete a CFD problem. 1. Research about the project 2. Completion of design 3. Converting it into 2D for simplicity 4. Consideration of boundary conditions 5. CFD analysis using Ansys or Solidwork depending upon the Buyer requirement

Mostly, I consider the overall dimensions of fluid domain equal to 10 times of the design product.
