Over the last three years, I have been actively involved in conducting lighting demonstrations and technical sessions as part of my professional work. These demos were designed to explain lighting fundamentals, design intent, calculation methods, and practical application of lighting systems to engineers, technicians, and project stakeholders. My demonstrations covered key topics such as illuminance requirements, uniformity, glare control, obtrusive light limits, luminaire selection, optical distribution, and layout optimisation. I frequently used Dialux models and calculation outputs to show how design decisions affect performance, compliance, and visual comfort. These sessions were not purely theoretical. I incorporated real project examples to highlight installation challenges, maintenance considerations, and post installation performance verification. This helped participants understand how lighting designs must respond to actual site conditions and operational needs. Alongside formal demos, I provided technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians during project development, installation, and commissioning stages. I assisted with interpreting standards, reviewing layouts, and checking compliance against design intent. Currently, I continue to conduct lighting demos while working on professional lighting design projects. My work includes lighting calculations, compliance reporting, obtrusive light assessments, and realistic visual presentations for residential, commercial, industrial, and exterior environments.

Electrical Engineer

I am an experienced engineer with a strong professional foundation built through many years of service in Sri Lanka, including an extensive career as a naval officer. My engineering background was not limited only to electrical or electronic engineering, but covered a broad range of responsibilities expected from a military engineer operating in complex and demanding environments. During my service in the Navy, I worked within a well planned, highly structured, and efficiency driven engineering and design platform, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineers, designers, and technical teams. My experience covered the complete lifecycle of engineering projects, including planning, design development, installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and system upgrades. This exposure gave me a clear understanding that successful design must perform reliably in real operational conditions, not only in theory. I was involved in engineering decision making where safety, reliability, compliance, and efficient use of resources were critical. This environment strengthened my discipline, documentation standards, attention to detail, and ability to deliver practical and sustainable solutions. In the later stage of my career, I became increasingly focused on lighting related projects. My organisation recognised my capability in this specialised area and entrusted me as the primary engineer responsible for lighting design and implementation. I handled lighting calculations, layout optimisation, compliance assessment, installation coordination, and performance verification. In addition to project delivery, I conducted training sessions and classes on lighting principles and applications for junior engineers and technicians, helping to build technical knowledge and consistent design standards within teams. Today, I apply this disciplined engineering mindset and specialised lighting expertise to professional lighting design projects worldwide.
