When I told EMEC Ecology that I would be relocating to Australia (from the UK) for personal reasons, they were extremely keen to keep me carrying out work for them as a freelancer. My main roles as an Ecological Consultant include GIS Mapping, Report writing, quality assurance, and quotation preparation.

Assistant Ecologist

As an Assistant Ecologist at EMEC Ecology, I supported the delivery of a wide range of ecological consultancy projects through field surveys, technical reporting, GIS analysis, data interpretation, client liaison, and operational support. I carried out a variety of ecological surveys including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), protected species surveys, nesting bird checks, and soil surveys, frequently working independently and undertaking lone-working site visits. Responsibilities included completing desk studies using local record centre data, reviewing ecological constraints, and assessing potential impacts associated with development proposals. I undertook bat call analysis and produced detailed QGIS mapping outputs, including habitat plans and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) metric calculations. I regularly wrote, contributed to, and quality assured technical reports and appendices. Alongside this, I prepared project quotations, maintained strong client relationships, and contributed to improving internal systems through procedural development and better data management. I also coordinated workloads across assistant ecologists and trained colleagues in QGIS and internal processes, improving consistency, efficiency, and team capability
